Character Name: Blitzø
Series: Helluva Boss
Age: 30s
From When?: S2 Ep11 “Mastermind” - Stolas does not arrive when Blitzø is punished.
Inmate Justification:
Blitzø is not always a good or nice person. He would argue that they’re in Hell and no one is good or nice there, but the fact is that the core issue for Blitzø is that he doesn’t like himself at all. It’s deeply embedded in him and comes out in numerous ways, not least of which is his behaviour towards other people and trying to force others away from him.
Since his last time on the Barge, Blitzø has at least started to realise that MAYBE he could do with making some changes, but he still has a long way to go towards actually making changes and having them stick - it’s working on and challenging one of his core values that has been there since childhood for him, and doing so completely alone wouldn’t be possible. On the Barge with friends, some of whom are already familiar with his quirks and bullshit and when to call him out, and with a hopefully understanding warden, he’d have a better chance at achieving this.
And who knows, he might manage to graduate this time around, then he’d be responsible for
Arrival: This time around, Blitzø agrees to return to the Barge.
Abilities/Powers: As imps are one of the lowest tiers in Hell, Blitzø basically has extremely little by way of powers or advantages. He’s slightly stronger and a good deal faster than the typical human, and his circus background and years as an assassin mean he is also acrobatic and a decently skilled fighter with a wide range of weapons experience.
As with all imps, he is immune to non-magical and non-hell fire, and has a number of lizard-like qualities including a prehensile tail.
Inmate Information:
Pre-Barge
Growing up as an imp in Hell, Blitzø has had ample opportunities to come to terms with the concept of not mattering to others. His family ran an imp circus in the Greed ring of Hell and while Blitzø was part of at least a couple of acts, he was never particularly skilled as an entertainer and his father made it very clear that this meant that he didn't feel Blitzø was worth paying attention to as a result. At one point going as far as to sell Blitzø to Goetian royalty for an afternoon in exchange for a few bucks, feeling that this was an acceptable reflection of Blitzø's value. In contrast, when his father thought that the Goetian king was interested in Fizzarolli, the circus' top act, he was reluctant to do business but when it was clear that they wished to buy Blitzø, he agreed immediately. When Blitzø protested, his father pressured him to go along with it for money and an opportunity to steal from the Goetian palace.
This early incident helped to shape Blitzø's worldview growing up; he is shown to be jaded as a teen, focused on money (unsurprising, since it's the Greed ring and all) and becoming painfully aware that his main value is in what he can do for others. His feelings of inadequacy started to become more prevalent in his life, particularly as Blitzø was often compared unfavourably to his best friend, Fizzarolli, who was a highly skilled and popular performer. In one scene, Blitzø's father can be seen giving Fizzarolli a card that reads "Wish you were my son", so it's unlikely that he made it much of a secret how he felt about Blitzø.
Blitzø's struggles with feeling not good enough for others came to a head during a birthday celebration for Fizz; faced with how popular his friend was in comparison to himself, Blitzø panicked and ran from the area, inadvertently knocking over another imp and starting a fire in the circus that ended up severely injuring Fizzarolli and claiming the life of Blitzø's mother, among other damages. While aware that the incident was an accident, Blitzø still blamed and hated himself for it happening, and this self-hatred only grew after he was led to believe that Fizzarolli never wanted to see him again and his sister blamed him for their mother's death.
This incident appears to have solidified a lot of Blitzø's self-hatred and insecurities. In the few shots we see of his apartment, while Blitzø has decorated the walls with a number of pictures of himself with friends and family, he has also taken the time to scribble over his own face in every single one of the images. He additionally admits to hating himself when he and Fizzarolli are reunited and finally talk about the circus fire, with Blitzø saying "I would hate me too… I do hate me."
But while Blitzø definitely hates himself, he also doesn't wallow in that hatred (...often, anyway. There are certainly times) In fact a lot of the time he seems to be almost over performing the role of someone who is self-assured to the point of being obnoxious, overly confident and almost unable to see any flaws in themselves. A lot of it is an act; but it's one that Blitzø himself is buying into as well and he falls all the harder when the mask slips. A prime example of this occurs during episodes 6 and 7 of season one: When Blitzø and Moxxie are captured by humans and subjected to truth serum, Blitzø is forced to realise that he craves affection but is also terrified of it and pushes people away as a result. In the following episode, the idea that Blitzø might be pushing people away to the point where he's going to end up dying alone returns and he ends up in a downward spiral and abusing alcohol to try and forget. This is a pattern he repeats again on the destruction of his relationship with Stolas; he acknowledges that he was hurt by what happened but also attempts to smother those feelings with impulsive and irrational decisions.
While Blitzø returns to being his normal filthy mouthed, unprofessional and somewhat chaotic self after these events, he does appear to be making a greater effort at being less abusive towards his employees and more trusting that they can handle matters themselves. It's also worth noting that while Blitzø is often an asshole, he is also immediately protective of the people he cares about and is often shown to put Millie, Moxxie, and Loona behind him during dangerous situations or drop his bombastic persona when one of them is injured.
In terms of his biggest crimes, Blitzø is shown to be a highly efficient if brutal and often sadistic killer. The “Mission Zero” episode also shows that while it’s pretty likely that Blitzø could in fact be a typical assassin who carries out the work cleanly and effectively, he doesn’t find that nearly as entertaining as the carnage that their group often causes and much prefers the idea of making shit up as he goes along, regardless of how much trauma, pain, and injury that causes to others. When it comes to the human targets he goes after, Blitzø does not care at all about who he's after and it's a point of pride that he and his team will wipe out whoever they're asked to, regardless if it's adults, kids, or entire families - the one time that he has shown some reluctance was due to the family in question reminding him of himself and Stolas, which is a pretty self-centred attitude. He additionally doesn't bat an eyelid at the times he's ended up killing other demons as well; as far as he's concerned it's fair game if they come between him and his goals or threaten the people he cares about.
Barge impact
Initially highly resistant to the concept of the Barge and the Admiral’s redemption, Blitzø wasn’t expecting to start to slowly make friends and care about people. It made things both better and far more difficult, especially as certain people started to understand him enough to see where he might need to make changes and work on his trauma and encouraged him to think better of himself.
It wasn’t a straightforward or easy process - decades of self-hatred take a lot more undoing than a few nice words can manage - but slowly but surely, the impact of people on the Barge started to be felt. His permanent warden, Trevor, helped by encouraging Blitzø to care more about himself and expressing concern for his wellbeing, but it was also Blitzø’s close friends (including Astarion, Florian, and Alexei) who challenged the imp’s negative opinion of himself and consistently stuck with him even when he lapsed to doing everything in his power to ruin those relationships and drive people away.
His experiences on the Barge were also reinforced by the canon events Blitzø encountered after returning - the implosion of his relationship (as much as you can call it that) with Stolas resulted in a similar meltdown and self-destructive tendencies that Millie helped pull him out of and encouraged Blitzø to realise that he does care about his friends and have people who care about him and who don’t think that he ruined their lives. Hearing that from not only Millie but also people on the Barge helped push Blitzø to start thinking that maybe, maybe he’s not a completely irredeemable shitbag.
Path to Redemption:
Having been on the Barge once already would help A LOT - Blitzø would already be familiar with the shenanigans of floods, breaches, and ports and know a number of people on board. It would take a bit to adjust to himself being absent for a while and the impact of being back again on top of what he’s been through in his own canon, but at least the initial Barge arrival experience would be past him.
He would also have some idea of what wardening and graduation entails and roughly an idea of where he probably needs to be different. Blitzø would likely struggle with the idea of addressing his self-hatred - it is very deeply engrained after all - but he would assume that he needs to be a better person in general before he could graduate so he could be a “good warden”. The part he would struggle with is if he would want to graduate - the Admiral hasn’t exactly given him a lot of faith with some of the decisions he makes and so one milestone would definitely be Blitzø addressing how he feels about the idea of graduating and taking on a role of helping the Admiral.
Even if he comes around to the idea of being a warden like Trevor, caring for inmates and helping them navigate the Barge, then there’s the hurdles of how he needs to change and move forward. While he made a lot of progress on the Barge previously (more than I expected honestly) and some of this is reflected in his development in canon, the circumstances of his death would set him back a bit as he would see it as his own fault that he put his company and his family in danger with his recklessness.

[Never let it be said that Blitzø isn’t ready and willing to put 100% into his work, even if it’s… not often the sort of 100% that people want him to put in. And having gotten himself a new job on the Barge, well there was really only one thing he knew for sure he had to do. Advertise.
That’s why this immediately opens with a terrible sketch of a stick figure looking sad and/or possibly dead, along with a sketch of a boat not unlike what a kid would draw and, for some reason, several small horses around the edges.]
Are you hungry? Sick of spending all your fucking time dealing with the Admiral’s bullshit with no way to deal with the endless grind of losing who you are and wondering what the fuck it’s all about?
[The page is flipped to another bunch of stick figures, one that is clearly Blitzø standing in front of an oven belching flames along with several other stick figures that may or may not closely resemble several members of the kitchen staff.]
You should get down to the dining hall where we’re Always Serving Smiles! Cause the red radio fucker said we gotta smile more so now you can come down and eat as much A.S.S. as you want! We’re serving A.S.S. all day, every day because we know that’s what the Admiral wants on this boat and that’s what you’ll all get–
[There’s more sketches, but they’re suddenly scattered as Blitzø is forcibly dragged away from his recording and there’s a sound of rapidly rising static before the feed cuts out.]

I love you guys…
The axe swung down.
And Blitzø woke, limbs thrashing to avoid a blade that wasn’t swinging towards him and instead somehow tangled his blanket around his limbs, tail, and horns and ended up faceplanting directly onto the floor next to his couch.
“Satan’s ass crack, what the fuck kind of bullshit–” The snarl faded as Blitzø untagled himself and looked around his apartment, everything exactly as he remembered. A dream?
“Are you fucking shitting me? A fucking dream?! I am blaming that fucking Ghostfucker’s Ghost Pepper ice cream for this bullshit, no way that shit had real ghost jizz in it…”
Still muttering to himself (but quieter as he passed Loona’s door), Blitzø stumbled towards the bathroom, figuring he’d have a shower and get started on breakfast at least. Only for the bathroom to seem a lot bigger than he remembered. It took a moment for him to realise that the reason for that was the gap where the fucking bath used to be.
“Who the fuck steals a bath… tub…”
A memory that he’d pretty much convinced himself to be some weird as fuck near death coma shit surfaces as he stares at empty wall, and Blitzø is suddenly more awake than even the dream could have managed as he races for the front door of his apartment and throws it open to a familiar hallway.
Moments later, the Barge would be treated to an extreme close up of a wide yellow and red eye followed immediately by an equally wide and sharp smile.
“What’s up, bitches?! Guess who’s fucking back!”
Maybe later he’ll have to think about what happened, what wasn’t a dream and what that means for everything, but right now there’s at least one bar he’s pretty sure he can still access and see what kind of dent he can make in the stock.
Special Notes: I MISSED YOU GUYS <3
